A new vision for skincare

Imagine skincare that rivals the most lauded products in the world yet is entirely natural, right down to its pioneering packaging. This was the vision of bioengineer Natalie McNamee.

Living and working in the sun-drenched landscapes of Australia, where ultraviolet radiation relentlessly challenges skin health, Natalie asked: What if skincare could transcend today’s compromises? What if it could deliver powerful results and indulgent luxury, all while remaining deeply attuned to nature?

Her answer? Next-nature skincare: Élucidé SKIN GLOW 2.0.

Why skin health matters

As an Australian, a mother and a scientist, for Natalie, skincare is a non-negotiable. While it’s well-known that UV exposure accelerates ageing and increases skin cancer risks, fewer people realise the profound connection between skin health and general wellbeing. In fact, as our largest organ and protective armour, the skin offers a window into our overall health.

This dynamic microbiome is teeming with beneficial bacteria and fungi that defend us against environmental aggressors and maintain harmony within the body. Like the gut, the skin thrives when nourished with the right balance of nutrients, and the wrong “diet” can cause lasting harm.

A troubling paradox in the beauty industry

Sadly, many skincare products fail to respect the skin’s delicate balance. When formulated with synthetic additives, harsh chemicals, or allergenic botanicals, they can disrupt the skin’s ecosystem and erode its natural defences.

Adding to the problem, much of today’s skincare is packaged in plastic, constituents of which can leach into products and contribute to the ugly realities of microplastic accumulation, resource depletion, and wildlife harm.

As a bioengineer, Natalie faced a troubling paradox: many products designed to protect her skin introduced new risks, compromising her health and that of the natural environment.

Vision becomes mission

This realisation sparked Natalie’s mission. Combining her scientific expertise and respect for the natural world, Natalie set out to create a pioneering skincare collection—one that would prove that natural formulations could not only meet the efficacy of synthetic counterparts but eclipse them.

Exceptional synergy for skin

You’ll find our ingredient lists packed with things that sound delicious (coconut, berry, macadamia), beautiful (sunflower, Kangaroo Paw, Lemon Myrtle) and healing (lactobacillus, shea butter, olive oil).

Other ingredients may be less familiar, but they all come from nature and can safely return there. For example, phytate is a natural organic compound found in seeds and grains. It is an antioxidant and a natural way to stabilise our products so that they last longer.

Our ceramides are plant-based, too. These photoceramides from plant oils are 100% vegan and entirely biodegradable.

Pioneering microbial packaging

Even our packaging reflects Élucidé’s philosophy of science-led sustainability. What appears to be plastic tubs, bottles, and droppers are in fact crafted from a pioneering biomaterial created by natural fermentation. It looks and feels like plastic in your hands, yet it is entirely plastic-free, plant-based, biodegradable, vegan and leaves no trace of microplastics. Once placed in home compost, the very microbes that produced it recognise it as nourishment, breaking it down into its natural elements and enriching the soil in the process.

The violet shade is achieved by blending mineral-based pigments into the raw biomaterial pellets. These natural pigments are safe, fully compatible with the material, and do not affect its ability to biodegrade or compost at the end of its life.
